JEE is an all India Engineering Entrance Examination conducted for admission into various prestigious engineering colleges for Undergraduate Engineering programs by students after their 12th grade of schooling all over the country.
The exam has been conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from the year 2012 onwards in replacement to AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination) and IIT-JEE (Indian Institute of Technology- Joint Entrance Exam).
The exam will be conducted in 382 centers (major cities and towns) of India as well as 8 centers abroad. No request for change of examination centers is entertained once the application is filled.
Colleges like IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology), NITs (National Institutes of Technology), CFTIs (Central Funded Technical Institute) and IIEST (Indian Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology, Shibpur) consider the JEE Mains scores along with the 12 th grade marks for admission to its dual degree programs.

JEE Mains has 2 papers. Paper-I (B.E/B.Tech.) and Paper-II (B.Arch./B.Planning). Candidates can choose to attempt from wither one or both the papers according to their area of interest.
The syllabus includes the following:
Paper-I (B.E/B.Tech.) - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics
Paper-II (B.Arch./B.Planning) - Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing Test
The exam will be conducted in 2 separate modes i.e. Offline and Online. Students can therefore take the exams according to their convenience. The offline mode is nothing but Pen and Paper based Exam while the On-line mode is Computer based Exam. For Paper-I (B.E/B.Tech.) both modes are available but for Paper-II (B.Arch./B.Planning) only offline mode is available.
A minimum score of 75% in board exams and at the least 185 (out of 360) in JEE Mains is needed for clearing the exam in the General category and 140 for the SC/ST Candidates.
The total exam duration is about 3 hour’s time. The total questions will be 90 and the maximum marks 360. Therefore, each question carries 4 marks. There is negative marking allotted i.e. each wrong answer carries -1 mark and so it is safe to leave the unknown question answered.

The exam pattern is explained as below.
Paper - I (B.E/B.Tech.) – Objective type questions with equal weightage to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Paper - II (B.Arch./B.Planning) – 3 parts namely Mathematics (objective type), Aptitude Test (objective type) and Drawing (questions to test drawing aptitude).
