A tennis player hits a ball at a point which is at a height of 2m above the ground and at a horizontal distance 4m from the net, the initial speed being in a direction of 45° above the horizontal in a vertical plane perpendicular to the net. The ball just clears the net which is 1m high. Taking the horizontal and vertical through the point in the plane of motion as axes of x and y respectively, and assuming that the only force acting on the ball is that due to gravity, find the distance from the net at which the ball strikes the ground. Ans= 0.593 m
