Three forces acting on a body as shown. To have resultant force only along y-direction, the magnitude of the minimum additional force needed is

 

$a)\; \sqrt {3}\; N \\ b)\; 0.5 \;N \\ c)1.5 \;N \\d) \large\frac{\sqrt 3}{4}\;N $

F required ={-x component of the resultant force}
$\bar F$ required $=-[-i+\large\frac{1}{2}$$ i]$
$\qquad=\large\frac{1}{2} $$i$
$\qquad=0.5 \;N$
Hence b is the correct answer.
