Find the values of \(x\) and \(y\) so that the vectors \(2\hat i + 3\hat j\) and \(x\hat i + y\hat j\) are equal.

Toolbox:
  • Two vectors are said to be equal,if they have same direction,and their direction cosines are same.
Step 1:
Given vector =$2\hat i+3\hat j$
It is given as $x\hat i+y\hat j=2\hat i+3\hat j$
Step 2:
Now equate the coefficients of $\hat i$ and $\hat j$
We get,
$x=2$ and $y=3$.
