1 Answer
$Y= 2 \eta (1+ \sigma)$
But $Y= 2.4 \;\eta$
$\therefore 2.4 \eta =2 \eta (1+\sigma)$
$(1+ \sigma)=1.2$
$\sigma =0.2$
Hence c is the correct answer.

A highly rigid cubical block A of small mass M and side L is fixed rigidly to another cubical block B of the same dimensions and modulus of rigidity $\eta$ Such that the lower face of A completely covers the upper face of B. The lower face of B is rigidly held on horizontal surface. A small force is applied perpendicular to one of the side face of A. After the force is withdrawn block A executes small oscillations the time period of which is given by

Two wires of different materials are used to hang a rod horizontally tied from two ends of the rod of length $2m$. At what distance should a weight be hung on the rod from Wire-1 so that equal stresses are produced on both the wires. Wire 1: cross -sectional area $= 10^{-3}m^{2}$. Young's modulus $= 2 \times 10^{11} N/m^2$ Wire 2 : cross -sectional area $= 2 \times 10^{-3} m^{2}$. Young's modulus $= 1 \times 10^{11} N/m^2$

A object of mass $5.0\;g$ is projected into air using a rubber string of cross sectional area of $1;mm^2$. The length of the chord when it was unstretched is 10.0 cm. It is then stretched to 12 cm to project the object . The young's modulus of rubber is $5.0 \times 10^8 n/m^2$. The velocity of projectile is (assuming all the energy of string is transferred to projectile)
