an ordinary die is rolled 4 times. if no outcomes is greater than 4 then what is the probability that the largest number is not 5.

A)

he sample space S (which is the set of all possible outcomes) is listed below:

S = {1,2,3,4,5,6}.

Let A represent the outcomes in which you get a value greater than 4, then A is defined as follows:

A = {5,6}.

The probability that the result of one die roll is greater than 4 is the number of events in set A divided by the total number of possible outcomes (the size of the sample space S) and so the probability of getting a number greater than 4 on one die roll is 2/6=1/3

but the largest number is 6 so the probabilty that the largest number is not 5 is 1/6
