Hydrogen and oxygen are combined in the ratio 1 : 16 by mass in hydrogen peroxide.Calculate the percentage of hydrogen and oxygen in hydrogen peroxide.

$\begin{array}{1 1}(a)\;40,60&(b)\;2,98\\(c)\;3.6,96.4&(d)\;5.88,94.12\end{array}$

1 Answer

17 parts of hydrogen peroxide contain hydrogen=1part
100 parts of hydrogen peroxide contain hydrogen=$\large\frac{1}{17}$$\times 100$
$\Rightarrow 5.88$
% of oxygen =(100-5.88)=94.12
Hence (d) is the correct answer.
