The magnetic moment of a transition metal ion is $\sqrt{15}$BM.Find out the number of unpaired electrons in it

$(a)\;2\qquad(b)\;3\qquad(c)\;1\qquad(d)\;4$

1 Answer

Magnetic moment =$\sqrt{n(n+2)}$BM
Where n is the unpaired electron.
$\sqrt{15}=\sqrt{n(n+2)}$
$\Rightarrow n=3$
Hence (b) is the correct answer.
