What is the oxidation state of Cobalt in CoBr$_2$?

Answer: +2
There are two bromines $\rightarrow$ the anion (bromine) gives us a charge of -2.
We know that CoBr$_2$ has an overall neutral charge, therefore Cobalt must have an oxidation state of +2 in order to neutralize the -2 charge from the two bromines.
