Answer: in lanthanides the differentiating electron enters into f-subshell
In Lanthanides, the last or differentiating electron enters into 4f orbital of the anti-penultimate shell, which lies two quantum levels lower than valence shell.
Hence the series of 14 elements in lanthanoids is called as 4f series
