What is the ratio of the Rydberg constant for helium to hydrogen atom?

$(a)\;\large\frac{1}{2}\qquad(b)\;\large\frac{1}{4}\qquad(c)\;\large\frac{1}{8}\qquad(d)\;\large\frac{1}{16}$

1 Answer

$R = -\large\frac{2\pi^2\mu Z^2e^4}{(4\pi^3 \in_0)^2h^2}$
$\large\frac{R_{He}}{R_H} = \large\frac{2\times2^2}{1\times1^2}$ = 8
$\large\frac{R_H}{R_{He}} = \large\frac{1}{8}$
Hence answer is (c)
