Consider the following statements \[\] Statement 1: The electric bulb glows immediately when switch is turned on \[\] Statement 2: The drift velocity of electrons is very high in metallic conductors

$\begin {array} {1 1} (A)\;Both \: the \: statements\: are\: true.\: Statement\: 2\: is\: a\: correct \: explanation\: of\: statement\: 1 \\ (B)\;Both \: the \: statements\: are\: true.\: Statement\: 2\: is\: not\: a\: correct \: explanation\: of\: statement\: 1 \\ (C)\;Statement \: 1\: is\: true,\: statement\: 2 \: is\: false \\ (D)\;Statement \: 2\: is\: true,\: statement\: 1 \: is\: false \end {array}$

1 Answer

When current flows in the circuit when the switch is turned on bulb glows immediately. But drift velocity of a metallic conductor is very small $\approx 10^{-4} m/s$ compared to thermal speed of electron. Therefore statement 2 is false.
Ans : (C) Statement 1 is true, statement 2 is false.
