An ionic compound has unit cell consisting of A ions at the corners of a cube and B ions on the centres of the faces of cube. The empirical formula of this compound is

$(a)\;AB\qquad(b)\;A_2B\qquad(c)\;A_3B\qquad(d)\;AB_3$

A at the corners thus $A = \large\frac{8}{8}$
$\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\Rightarrow = 1$
B at the centre thus B = $\large\frac{1}{2}\times6$
$\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\Rightarrow = 3$
Thus the formula is $AB_3$
Hence answer is (d)
