The compound formed by elements X and Y crystallizes in cubic structure in which X atoms are at the corners of the cube and Y atoms are at the face centre . The formula of the compound is

$(a)\;XY_2\qquad(b)\;XY\qquad(c)\;XY_3\qquad(d)\;X_3Y$

No. of X-atoms per unit cell = $\large\frac{8}{8}$
$\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;=1$
No. of Y-atoms per unit cell = $\large\frac{6}{2}$
$\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;=3$
Thus the formula is $XY_3$
Hence answer is (c)
