Caprolactum is the starting material for

$\begin {array} {1 1} (a)\;Nylon-6 & \quad (b)\;terylene \\ (c)\;nylon-66 & \quad (d)\;nyon-6,1 \end {array}$

1 Answer

Almost all caprolactam produced goes into the production of Nylon-6. The conversion entails a ring- opening polymerization:
$n (CH_2)_5C(O)NH \rightarrow [(CH_2)_5C(O)NH]_n$
Nylon-6 is widely used in fibers and plastics.
