At a pressure of 10 atm , the density of a certain gas is $\;1.4\times10^{-3}\;gm/cm\;$ . If the specific heat ratio for this gas is 1.4 , the velocity of sound in this gas is

$(a)\;1000\;m/s\qquad(b)\;2000\;m/s\qquad(c)\;500\;m/s\qquad(d)\;None\;of\;these$

Answer : (a) $\;1000\;m/s$
Explanation :
velocity = $\;\sqrt{\large\frac{\gamma P}{\rho}}$
$\gamma=1.4$
$P=10\times10^{5}\;N/m^2$
$\rho=1.4\times10^{-3}\;gm/cc=1.4\times\;Kg/m^{3}$
$v=\sqrt{\large\frac{1.4\times10^{6}}{1.4}}=10^{3}=1000\;m/s\;.$
