Which one of the following order is correct for the increasing thermal stabilities of $K_2CO_3,MgCO_3,CaCO_3$ and $BeCO_3$?

$\begin{array}{1 1}(a)\;BeCO_3 < MgCO_3 < CaCO_3 < K_2CO_3\\(b)\;MgCO_3 < BeCO_3 < CaCO_3 < K_2CO_3\\(c)\;K_2CO_3 < MgCO_3 < CaCO_3 < BeCO_3\\(d)\;BeCO_3 < MgCO_3 < K_2CO_3 < CaCO_3\end{array}$

1 Answer

$BeCO_3 < MgCO_3 < CaCO_3 < K_2CO_3$
The thermal stability of Group II carbonates increases as we descend the group. Beryllium carbonate decomposing most easily.
Hence (a) is the correct answer.
