Overhanging regions of DNA that has been acted upon by restriction is enzymes are called sticky ends as they form __ with the complementary strand

( a ) covalent bond
( b ) glycosidic bond
( c ) ionic bond
( d ) hydrogen bond

1 Answer

Ans (D) Hydrogen bonds
Restriction enzymes cut the strand of DNA a little away from the centre of the palindrome sites but between the same two bases on the opposite strand. This leaves single stranded portions at the ends. These are over hanging stretches called sticky ends on each strands. These are named so because they form hydrogen bonds with their complementary cut counter parts.
