1 Answer

In pachytene, bivalent chromosomes appear as tetrads. This stage is characterised by the appearance of the recombination nodules, the sites at which crossing over occurs between the non sister chromatids of the homologus chromosomes. Recombination due to the end of the pachytene leaving the chromosomes linked at the sites of the cross over.
