In Phenylketonuria, enzyme that converts aminoacid phenylalanine into tyrosine is absent. As a result of this, phenylalanine is accumulated and converted into phenylpyruvic acid and other derivatives. They are excreted through urine as they are not absorbed by the kidneys.
