Treatment of (+)- glucose with $HIO_4$ gives the results that confirm its aldohexose structure. How many moles of $HIO_4$ should be consumed?

Since in glucose there are five -OH groups so five moles of $HIO_4$ are consumed giving main product formic acid and formaldehyde as shown below:
Glucose + $HIO_4 → 5HCOOH + HCHO$
Hence (c) is the correct answer.
