# Which of the following are isoelectronic and isostructural ? $NO_3^{-},CO_3^{2-},ClO_3^{-}, SO_3$

$(a)\;NO_3^{-},CO_3^{2-} \\ (b)\;SO_3,NO_3^{-} \\(c)\;ClO^{-}_3 \\(d)\;CO_3^{2-},SO_3$

## 1 Answer

Number of valence electron in $NO_3^{-}=(5+3 \times 6+1)=24$
Number of valence electron in $CO_3^{2-}= (4 +3 \times 6 +2)=24$
Number of valence electron in $SO_3^{2-}= (6 +3 \times 6 )=24$
Number of valence electron in $ClO_2^{-}= (7 +2 \times 6 +1)=20$
Therefore ,$NO^{-}_3,CO_3^{2-}$ and $SO_3$ are isoelectronic.
Thus $NO_3^{-}$ and $CO_3^{2-}$ are isostructural
Hence a is the correct answer.
