Determine the probability P,for each of the following events.Sum of 6 appears in a single toss of a pair of fair dice.

$\begin{array}{1 1}(A)\;\large\frac{5}{36}\\(B)\;\large\frac{7}{36}\\(C)\;\large\frac{6}{37}\\(D)\;\large\frac{2}{25}\end{array} $

1 Answer

Step 1:
Sum of 6 appears in a single toss of a pair of fair dice
$\therefore$ Total sample space S=$6\times 6=36$
Sum of 6 n(E)={(1,5),(2,4),(3,3),(5,1),(4,2)}
Step 2:
$\therefore$ Probability =$\large\frac{n(E)}{n(S)}$
$\Rightarrow \large\frac{5}{36}$
Hence (A) is the correct answer.
