Toolbox:
  • Negation of a statement is denial of the statement.
The given statements are
"The number $x$ is not a rational number." and
"The number $x$ is not an irrational number."
The negation of the first statement is "The number $x$ is a rational number."
The second statement is $x$ is not a irrational number. That means
$x$ is a rational number which is same as the negation of $1^{st}$ statement.
$\therefore$ The given two statements are negation of each other.
