Given the following Assertion and Reason, choose the correct answer:

Assertion: Although $\text{PF}_5, \text{PCl}$ and $\text{PBr}_5$ are known, the pentahalides of nitrogen have not been observed

Reason: Phosphorus has a lower electronegativity than nitrogen.

(A) Both ASSERTION and REASON are CORRECT, and the REASON is the CORRECT explanation for the ASSERTION (B) Both ASSERTION and REASON are CORRECT, BUT the REASON is NOT the CORRECT explanation for the ASSERTION (C) The ASSERTION is CORRECT, but NOT the REASON (D) The ASSERTION is INCORRECT, but the REASON is CORRECT

Answer: (B) Both ASSERTION and REASON are CORRECT, BUT the REASON is NOT the CORRECT explanation for the ASSERTION
We know that In phosphorus, the 3d-orbitals are available which means that it can form pentahalides also, but nitrogen cannot due to the absence of d-orbitals.
The reason is not because of the lower electronegativity, even though that statement by itself is correct.
