# In terms of band theory, what is the difference between a conductor and a semiconductor

Difference between a conductor and a semiconductor:
In case of semiconductors,the gap between the valence band and conduction band is small,therefore,some electrons may jump to the conduction band and shows some conductivity.
In conductor the band is partially filled or it overlaps with the high energy unoccupied conductor band so,that electrons can flow easily under an applied electric field.
