Copper has the fcc crystal structure.Assuming an atomic radius of 130pm for copper atom (Cu = 63.54).Find the density of Cu.

Toolbox:
  • $\rho=\large\frac{n\times M}{N_A\times a^3}$
$4r=\sqrt 2a$
$\Rightarrow a=2\sqrt 2r$
$a=2\sqrt 2\times 130pm=367.69pm=3.6769\times 10^{-8}$cm
n=4
$\rho=\large\frac{4\times 63.54}{6.023\times 10^{23}\times (3.6769\times 10^{-8})^3}$
$\Rightarrow 8.48gm/cm^3$
