Toolbox:
  • An element $e \in N $ is an identify element for operation * if $a \ast e=e \ast a$ for all $a \in N$
The binary operation $*$ is defined by $a*b=a+3b^2$
$\therefore 2*4=2+3(4)^2$
$\qquad\quad=2+48$
$\qquad\quad=50$
