A hockey puck slides on ice at constant velocity. What is the net force acting on the puck?

(A) Zero
(B) More than its weight
(C) Less than its weight but more than zero
(D) Equal to its weight

  • Newton's first law states that when viewed in an inertial reference frame, an object either remains at rest or continues to move at a constant velocity, unless acted upon by an external force.
The puck is moving at a constant velocity, and therefore it is not accelerating.
Therefore, the net force is zero.
