Compute the following $ (iii)\;\begin{bmatrix}-1 & 4 & -6\\8 & 5 &16\\2 & 8 &5\end{bmatrix}+\begin{bmatrix}12 & 7 & 6\\8 & 0 & 5\\3 & 2 & 4\end{bmatrix}$

  • The sum $A+B$ of two $m$-by-$n$ matrices $A$ and $B$ is calculated entrywise: $(A + B)_{i,j} = A_{i,j} + B_{i,j}$ where 1 ≤ i ≤ m and 1 ≤ j ≤ n.
$\begin{bmatrix}-1 & 4 & -6\\8 & 5 &16\\2 & 8 &5\end{bmatrix}+\begin{bmatrix}12 & 7 & 6\\8 & 0 & 5\\3 & 2 & 4\end{bmatrix} = \begin{bmatrix}-1+12 & 4+7 & -6+6\\8+8 & 5+0 &16+5\\2+3 & 8+2 &5+4\end{bmatrix}$
$\begin{bmatrix}-1 & 4 & -6\\8 & 5 &16\\2 & 8 &5\end{bmatrix}+\begin{bmatrix}12 & 7 & 6\\8 & 0 & 5\\3 & 2 & 4\end{bmatrix} = \begin{bmatrix}11 & 11 & 0\\16 & 5 &21\\5 & 10 &9\end{bmatrix}$.
