Determine order and degree (if defined) of differential equation $y'+y=e^x$

  • The highest order derivative present in the differential equation determines the order of the equation.The degree to which the derivative is raised determines the degree of the equation.
Step 1:
The highest order derivatives present in the differential equation is $\large\frac{dy}{dx}$.Hence the order is 1.
Step 2:
It is a polynomial in $y'$ and the highest power raised to $\large\frac{dy}{dx}$ is also 1.So its degree is 1.
