  • The number or functions occurring in the rectangular array are called the elements of the matrix or entries of the matrix. The element of the matrix is given by ith row and jth column.
Given:
$A=\begin{bmatrix} 2 & 5 & 19 & -7 \\ 35 & -2 & \frac{5}{2} & 12 \\ \sqrt 3 & 1 & -5 & 17 \end{bmatrix}$
$a_{13}\rightarrow$ First row third column $\Rightarrow$ 19.
$a_{21}\rightarrow$ Second row first column $\Rightarrow$ 35.
$a_{33}\rightarrow$ Third row third column $\Rightarrow$ -5.
$a_{24}\rightarrow$ Second row fourth column $\Rightarrow$ 12.
$a_{23}\rightarrow$ Second row third column $\Rightarrow \frac{5}{2}$.
