For each of the differential equations given below,indicate its order and degree(if defined) $(i)\;\large\frac{d^2y}{dx^2}+5x\bigg(\frac{dy}{dx}\bigg)^2-6y=\log x$

Toolbox:
  • If the highest order derivative present in the differential equation is $\large\frac{dy}{dx}$,then it is of order 1.
  • If the highest order present in the differential equation is $\large\frac{d^ny}{dx^n}$ then the order is n.
  • The highest power raised to the highest order determines the degree of the equation.
In the given problem, the highest order present in the differential equation is $\large\frac{d^2y}{dx^2}$.Hence its order is 2 and it corresponding degree is also 2.
